Week 1 Match Reports

Blues vs Loughborough 3rds

The Blues absolutely smashed their first game of the season, and their first game as a new squad, beating Loughborough decisively, 45-22. They were quick out of the blocks in the first quarter, setting up a commanding lead, but needed to bring some calm and discipline to the rest of the game. Once first-game-nerves had dissipated, they settled into some smooth through court play, accompanied by ferocious defending, and pin-point shooting. Player of the match went to none other than Blues Captain, Elsa Wakeman.

Roos vs Cambridge 2nds

The Roos were always in for a tricky trip, with their first game of the season being away in Cambridge. A hard battle ended up 54-37 in favour of Cambridge, but with lots of new faces in the Roos, this was a positive start to the season. We have no doubt that, just like last year, form in the league against Cambridge has no bearing upon the eventual Varsity result.

Emus vs Birmingham City 3rds

The Emu’s won their first ever BUCS match, annihilating Birmingham 58-3. Player of the match went to the talisman at GS, Hannah McNicol.

With no games scheduled for the 2nds and 3rds in 2nd week, and the Blues’ match being cancelled, the next games will take place in 3rd week. The Blues are playing away to Cambridge, so it’s sure to be a big week!

Also a big congratulations to our new Roos and Emus captains, Char Walker and Holly Skinner!
